Alice Moore was born in 1850 in Rotherhithe, Surrey, England, the daughter of George Robert Moore, a barge owner and lighterman, and Fanny Letham.
Alice emigrated to Australia in 1851 with her mother and older sister Fanny on the Medway.
Her mother married John Golder, a policeman, in Victoria in 1856 and they travelled to Otago about 1861.
Alice married Robert Andrew, a shipping agent, at her home in Moray Place, Dunedin on 28 April 1869. They had three children.
Robert had several failed business ventures, and he was declared bankrupt twice when timber businesses failed.
In 1888 he traveled overseas and did not return for eight years.
When she signed the suffrage petition Alice was living in Cumberland St, Dunedin with her daughter.
Her husband returned home about 1896, but left again in 1900 for Melbourne where he died in 1905.
Alice died in Dunedin on 17 June 1934. She was cremated and her ashes were 'scattered to the winds'.
