Alice Ann Lowden was born in 1848 in Durham, England – the daughter of John Lowden, an engine wright, and Alice Elphinstone.
She married Thomas Pratt Davis, a builder, in 1877 and they had two sons before they emigrated to Otago on the Taranaki in 1879 with Alice’s extended family including her sister Jane (See 99 Jane Helmkey)
A further two children were born in New Zealand and when Alice signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Great King St, Dunedin.
She died suddenly at her home on 29 March 1897, Thomas re-married in 1901 and he died in 1920.
They are buried together in the Northern Cemetery.
