Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Alice Harris was born in 1871 in New Zealand – the daughter of George Harris, a general dealer, and Hannah Solomon.

Alice married Thomas Henry Silk, a publican, in 1900. They had no children and ran the Metropole Hotel in St Clair, Dunedin.

Both her parents died in 1901 and Thomas died in 1902. Alice continued to run the Metropole until 1903 when her licence was not renewed.

She disappears from the records after this time. She could be the Alice who married Stephen Fitzgerald in 1903 but I can find no proof.
