Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Alice Margaret Gough was born in 1861 in London, England – the daughter of Joseph Alexander Gough, a clerk, and Thirza Rassell.

She emigrated to Wellington in 1874 with her parents and nine siblings on the Ocean Mail.

Three years after their arrival Alice’s father died, followed by her mother in 1878.

She married Alexander Lamb, an expressman, on 3 March  1882 in Dunedin and they had eight children.

When Alice signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Cargill Rd, South Dunedin.

They moved to Auckland in the 1920s where Alexander died in 1935.

Alice died on 28 August 1948, she is buried with Alexander in the Mangere Lawn Cemetery.
