Alice Eliza Fail was born in Sandhurst, Victoria in 1862 – the daughter of William Gowan Fail and Eliza Fail.
She came to Otago as an infant & the family settled in Port Chalmers where her father worked as a waterman.
Alice married Robert Young, a clerk, in 1883.
They had three sons and when Alice signed the suffrage petition they were living in Forth St, Roslyn.
Robert died in 1905 and Alice died on 14 December 1956 – they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
