Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Alison Glen was born about 1846 in Edinburgh, Scotland – the daughter of Thomas Glen, a printer, and Elizabeth Rodger.

She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1848 on the Blundell and they settled in Dunedin.

Alison married Alfred Watts, a fireman, on 1 November 1861 – they had 13 children, three who died in early childhood.

When Alison signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Paterson St, Mornington.

Alfred died in 1919 and Alison died at her home on 29 May 1922 – they are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
