Biographical information provided by Christa Hopkinson for the He Tohu exhibition. Additonal information provided by Katherine Blakeley.

Amelia Kinnear (nee Thomson) was born on 17 June 1856 in Alloa, Scotland to Jane Musgrave Wilkie and John Thomson. She married a blacksmith named Robert Kinnear in 1875, before the couple emigrated to Dunedin on the Auckland. Together they had ten children.

In 1910, Amelia was knocked over by a passing tramcar while crossing the street. The driver rang his bell but was unable to avoid hitting Amelia, who was hard of hearing. Amelia was shaken but had no serious injury as a result of the crash.

Amelia died in 1922 aged 65 years old.
