Amelia Clack was born on 18 November 1837 in London – the daughter of William Clack, a painter and glazier, and Mary Ann.
She married William Wilden, a miner, on 2 July 1862 at St Mary’s Church, Vincent Square, London.
They had three children, one who died in infancy, before the family emigrated to New Zealand in the late 1860s.
They had a further two children after their arrival and when Amelia signed the suffrage petition they were living in Green Island, near Dunedin.
They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1912.
William died at their home in 1915 and Amelia died at her daughter’s home in Port Chalmers on 1 August 1918.
They are buried in the family grave in the Green Island Cemetery.
