Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Amy Mary Playford was born in Worth, Sussex, England in 1853 – the daughter of George Frederick Playford, a land agent, and Lucy Steele.

Amy emigrated to Otago via Australia, arriving in 1883.

She married Herbert John Pullar, a clerk, on 18 January 1885 at Holy Trinity Church, Port Chalmers.

Their son was born in Port Chalmers in 1888 and their daughter was born in 1892.

When Amy signed the suffrage petition the family had moved to Puerua in South Otago and Herbert was working as a bushman.

Sometime after this the family sailed for England where Amy died on 4 March 1928 in Rotherham, Yorkshire and Herbert died in 1943.

They are buried together in the Rawmarsh Cemetery, Rotherham.
