Ann Elizabeth Nunn was born in 1843, Maldon, Essex, England to George and Matilda Nunn. She was christened on 12 February 1843, Steeple, Essex, England.
In 1873 Ann married John Dash, a Wheelwright in Maldon, Essex, England. They had five children born in Essex and one child born in New Zealand; Sarah Ellen born 1864, William born 1866, Charles born 1867, George born 1871 and Matilda Alice born 1875. Henry John was born in 1881 in New Zealand.
At the time of the UK 1871 census the Dash family was living in North Street, Southminster, Maldon, Essex. John was a “Wheelwright “Master” supplying one man and one boy”.
John and Ann and their five children left London on 31 October 1875 on the ship “Otaki” and arrived in Lyttleton on 8 February 1876 and went straight to Waimate.
The Electoral Rolls for Waitaki, Otago of 1896 – 1914 record Ann and John living in Waimate, from 1911 in Harris Street.
On Christmas Day 1913 John and Ann Dash celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary.
Ann Elizabeth Dash died on 16 November 1916 in Waimate and is buried in the Waimate Old cemetery – Methodist section, Plot 0015ME000205.
Her obituary states that a son, “Charles Dash was Town Clerk of Sumner and for some years previously Town Clerk of Waimate. George Dash [son] was a Borough Councillor, the flag on the Municipal Offices was flown at half mast on 17 November 1916”.
John Dash died in 1925 and is buried in the Waimate Old Cemetery.
