Biographical information provided by Fiona Oliver for the He Tohu exhibition:

Ann Kate Harrison was born in 1856, probably in Manchester, England. She emigrated to New Zealand, and married Ebenezer Bishop in 1874. She had two sons and a daughter. Ann died a widow in 1927, aged 71. She was still living at 7 Finlay Terrace, Wellington, where she’d signed the Petition 34 years earlier. She may have disapproved of her youngest son getting married; a few months after she died he wed, aged 50.
