Her husband John died on 4 April 1901. They had emigrated to NZ on 3 Aug 1872 on the Merope and settled in to Canterbury. At the time of his death she was 43 years old. She was from Durham England. John was 45 and a farm labourer and their daughter (?) Mary, was 13
