Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Ann Snaith was born in Durham, England about 1820, she married John Scurr in 1841 and they had four children, one of who died in infancy.

John died in 1849 and Ann worked as a straw hat maker before she re-married in 1854.

Her new husband was Joseph Northfield, a stone labourer. Ann and Joseph had six children, three of who died in infancy and the family emigrated to New Zealand about 1871.

When Ann signed the suffrage petition they were living in Melville Lane (off Great King St) Dunedin and Joseph was working as a carter.

Ann died on 6 September 1895, Joseph died in 1898. They are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
