Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Ann Bradbury was born about 1835 in Stockport, Cheshire, England – the daughter of Joseph Bradbury, the clerk of Stockport market, and Hannah Kirk.

She married George Wood, a joiner and builder, in 1859. George was a widower with three children whose wife had died earlier that year.

Ann and George had a son later that year and the following year her son and step daughter died. They had a further six children, and at least one more died in infancy.

The family emigrated to Otago about 1880 and they lived in Royal Terrace, Dunedin. Their three year old daughter Sarah died there in 1881. Ann's step-daughter Mary also signed the 1893 suffrage petition.

George died suddenly at home in 1908 and Ann died at Ross Home, Dunedin on 5 January 1921. They were buried together in the Northern Cemetery.
