Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.

Anna Teresa Kreft was born about 1866 in Poland – the daughter of Joseph Kreft and Rosalie Gdanitz.

She emigrated to New Zealand with her family in 1872 on the “Palmerston” and they settled at Allanton, south of Dunedin.

Anna married seaman William Cromar in 1892 and when she signed the suffrage petition they were living in St David St, Dunedin.

They had four children, one who died in infancy.

Their youngest son Cyril died in 1919 at the end of WW1 when he was shot after an altercation in Cologne.

William died in 1929 and Anna died on 29 November 1943 – they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
