Annie Clark was born in 1860 in New Zealand – the daughter of George Clark, a brickmaker, and Ann. (See 41 Ann Cole)

She married storeman, Joseph Bates in 1879 and they had one son the following year. 

When Annie signed the suffrage petition they were living in Sydney St, Caversham.

Annie died on 11 July 1940 and Joseph died in 1947 – they are buried with Annie’s family in the Southern Cemetery.
