Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Annie McCorkindale was born on 12 July 1859 in Killean and Kilchenzie, Argyllshire, Scotland – the daughter of Malcolm McCorkindale, a farmer, and Ann McGeachy.
Her mother died when she was young and her father re-married in 1863.
She emigrated to Otago with her family group, which also included two of her uncles and their families, in 1866 on the Vicksburg.
They lived, at first, in Naseby then at Mount Stuart before settling at Waitahuna.
In 1884, at a committee meeting of the Waitahuna Presbyterian Church, Annie 'was the recipient of a handsome mantelpiece clock, presented by the Sunday-school teacher, on the eve of her departure from the district.'
She married James Blaikie, a farmer, on 11 June that year at her family home at Murray’s Flat, Waitahuna.
They had nine children and when Annie signed the suffrage petition they were living in Milton.
James died in Mosgiel in 1931 and Annie died on 11 May 1933, they are buried together in the East Taieri Cemetery.
