Ann Blackwood was born about 1838 in Milngavie, Dunbartonshire, Scotland, the daughter of Ann Campbell.

She married John Brown, a carpenter, on 4 December 1857 in New Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire. The following year Ann and John, accompanied by Ann’s mother, emigrated to Otago on the Strathfieldsaye

They had at least ten children and lived in London St, Dunedin.

John died in 1905 and Ann died on 10 August 1918. They are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery, Dunedin.
