Information contributed by Mary Hutching:

My great grandmother Annie Elizabeth Pascoe (born Heighington Fen, Lincolnshire 1849, died Tauranga, NZ 1937) was living in Huxley St, Christchurch at the time she signed the petition. She came from a Methodist background and was a staunch tee-totaller and worked as a dressmaker to supplement the family's income. She emigrated to NZ with her husband Augustus and 3 older children in 1880 and had a further 5 children in New Zealand. She retained her Lincolnshire accent all her life as my father can remember her speaking with it. One of the ironies of her later life was that she lived in Palmerston North on the same street as the brewery and the Catholic convent - both anathema to her.
