Annie Hall was born in 1863 in New Zealand – the daughter of John Robson Hall, a miner, and Elizabeth Hitchcock.
She married John Fortune, also a miner, on 21 July 1884 – they had two children and lived in Orepuki in Southland.
In January 1890 John was killed by a fall of earth at his claim, he is buried in the Orepuki Cemetery.
Five months later Annie gave birth to their third child and she was still living in Orepuki when she signed the suffrage petition.
She re-married in 1910 to Robert Meredith, a grocer and the widower of her sister Ada who had two children.
They lived in Invercargill where Robert died in 1912, he is buried in the Invercargill Eastern Cemetery with Ada.
Annie died on 10 February 1942, she is also buried in the Invercargill Eastern Cemetery.
