Ann Jane Dobson was born about 1857 either in Lanarkshire, Scotland (according to her shipping record) or Ireland (according to her cemetery record).
She came to Otago in 1874 on the Parsee and married Samuel Sherwood, a railway worker, in 1876. They had five children. When Annie signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Nelson St, South Dunedin.
Annie died on 8 June 1894 and is buried in the Southern Cemetery.
Samuel re-married the following year and he died in Wellington in 1932.
