Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Annie Keenan was born in 1869 in New Zealand – the daughter of Henry Lawrence Keenan, the manager of the Burnside cattle yards, and Margaret Ferguson.

She grew up at Burnside, near Dunedin, where she signed the suffrage petition.

Annie married butcher Colin Campbell Miller on 12 March 1897 at her parents’ home in Burnside and they had three children.

Colin died at their home in 1929 and Annie died in Dunedin on 4 May 1943 – they are buried together in the Green Island Cemetery.
