Annie Elizabeth Fahey was born about 1865 in Otago – the daughter of Thomas Fahey, a miner and farmer, and Mary Kearney.
She married Daniel Madden, a 51-year-old farmer, in 1885 and they had 11 children, three who died in infancy.
The family lived at Wairuna near Clinton in South Otago where Annie signed the suffrage petition.
She died at her home on 23 March 1909, her obituary said 'her kindly manner endeared her all she met, and of her we can truly say she was a good mother, a true friend, and a kind neighbour'.
Daniel retired to Milton where he died in 1914, they are buried in the family grave in the Clinton Cemetery.
