Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Anne Miscall was born in Waitahuna, Otago, New Zealand in 1870 – the daughter of Timothy Miscall, a gold miner, and Susan Gildea

Anne’s family moved to Dunedin in the late 1880s and lived in South Dunedin. Her sisters Ellen and Maggie also signed the 1893 suffrage petition. In the late 1890s Timothy disappeared and no further trace was found of him.

Anne was one of three sisters in the family who became a nun. She was known as Mother Mary St Eustace.

She died in January 1960 and is buried in the Wakapuaka Cemetery in Nelson.
