Biography contributed by Bernadette Siebert
Annie Partridge was the daughter of William and Elizabeth Sara nee Lester. She was born in 1866 in Port Albert. Her parents and two older siblings had emigrated to Auckland with other Albertlanders on board the Matilda Wattenbach in 1862. They settled in Port Albert, north of Auckland, on a government grant of land.
Annie joined the Christian Brethren church and married Henry Roebuck Downey on 23 April 1891. They were both from Auckland. Henry was born in 1868 in Auckland, son of Londoners Richard Bedford Downey and wife Eleanor Maria nee Roebuck. He was a wood-turner by trade and later a toymaker.
Annie died on 26 December 1891 aged 25, only eight months after she married and was buried in the Waikumete Cemetery. There appear to have been no children born.
Henry married again to Frances Vickery in 1901, and they had one daughter Elsie Annie (1902–1991). Henry died in 1942 in Auckland.
Annie is the sister of 23 A PARTRIDGE and 24 Jane LITTEN
