Ann McMillan was born on 31 July 1872 in Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire, Scotland – the daughter of Thomas McMillan, a blacksmith, and Catherine Brown. (See 59 Mrs McMillan)

She emigrated to Otago with her parents and six siblings in 1880 on the Marlborough and they settled in Dunedin.

Annie married Montgomery Cunningham Richmond, a butcher, on 18 December1890 at her parent’s home in Dunedin.

They had a daughter in 1891 and when she signed the suffrage petition she was living in London St, Dunedin.

She died on 25 June 1893 at Palmerston, north of Dunedin, aged 21 and is buried in the Palmerston Cemetery.

Montgomery re-married in 1900 and had a further nine children. He died in Wanganui in 1924, and is buried in the Aramoho Cemetery.
