Eliza Jane Thomson was born in 1867 in New Zealand – the daughter of Alexander Thomson, a plumber, and Christina McAuslan. (See 64 Christina Thomson)

When Eliza signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Andersons Bay Rd working as a machinist.

On 31 December 1901, at the age of 34, Eliza married 24-year-old James John Scholfield, a carter.

They did not have children.

Eliza died on 28 July 1918, she is buried with her parents in the Southern Cemetery.

James re-married in 1920, he died in 1938 and is buried with his second wife in the Green Island Cemetery, Dunedin.
