Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Annie Isabella Hughes was born about 1865 in Scotland.

She emigrated to Otago in the mid 1870s where she married butcher Henry Sharp on 25 February 1890 in Dunedin.

They had 10 children, one who died in infancy, and when Annie signed the suffrage petition the family were living in George St, Caversham.

They later lived in Invercargill and Waikiwi before returning to Dunedin where Henry died in 1923 and Annie died on 19 January 1945.

They are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
