Annie Goudie was born about 1853 in Invernesshire - the daughter of Alexander Goudie, a ship’s carpenter, and Christina Drummond.
She emigrated to Canterbury with her family in 1874 and they settled in Dunedin.
She travelled to Queensland, Australia where she married Morris Pollock Steven, a shipwright, on 30 October1875.
They had a son in Queensland before returning to New Zealand where their next four children were born.
When Annie signed the suffrage petition they were living in Kelvin Grove, North East Valley, Dunedin.
Morris died at their home in 1926 and Annie died on 23 August 1941 – they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
