Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Annie Cameron was born about 1847 in Kincardineshire, Scotland – the daughter of James Cameron, a mason and crofter, and Catharine Ramsay.

She came to New Zealand where she married James Stirling, a farm worker, on 23 June 1882 at Mosgiel, near Dunedin.

They had two children and when Annie signed the suffrage petition they were living in Enfield in North Otago.

James died in 1916 and Annie died at her home on 28 September 1924 – they are buried together in the Old Oamaru Cemetery.
