Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Arabella Louisa Brown was born in New Zealand in 1861 – the daughter of Charles Brown and Elizabeth.

She married David Conly, a coal miner, on 9 November 1887 at Knox Church, Dunedin and they had four children, one who died in infancy.

When Arabella signed the suffrage petition she gave her address as Dundas St, Dunedin although the family were living in Kaitangata. (She was possibly staying with her parents who lived in Dundas St).

The family came to live in Dunedin in the 1900s and David worked as a coal merchant.

In 1937 they celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary, Arabella died two years later on 21 July ,she is buried in the Northern Cemetery.

David died in 1953, he is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery with his daughter in law.
