Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Beatrice Christina Rose Kydd was born in 1867 in New Zealand – the daughter of William Kydd and Elizabeth Johnston.

She married William Kydd, an engine fitter, in 1889 and they had three children.

When Beatrice signed the suffrage petition the family was living in Caversham, Dunedin.

They moved to Napier in the early 1900s when William earned a promotion then later moved to Whanganui.

Beatrice took her own life on 15 March 1922 while 'in ill-health and despondent', she is buried with one of their sons in the Mount View Cemetery, Marton.

William re-married in 1928, he died in 1930 in Christchurch and is buried in the Bromley Cemetery.
