Barbara Lockie was born about 1826 in Edinburgh, Scotland, daughter of Janet Lockie.

Barbara married Thomas Lockie, a carter, on 14 June 1853 in Bathgate, West Lothian. They had two children, a son who died aged five and a daughter who died in infancy.

Barbara and Thomas emigrated to Otago in 1860 on the Storm Cloud and lived in Arthur St, Dunedin.

They had a daughter in 1863 who died in 1871, aged nine.

Thomas died in 1901. Barbara died on 24 November 24 1905. They are buried with their daughter in the Southern Cemetery, Dunedin.
