Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Barbara McPhail McPherson was born in 1868 in New Zealand – the daughter of Donald McPherson, a blacksmith, and Agnes Hair. (See 151 Agnes McPherson)

When Barbara signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Park St, Kensington, Dunedin.

Barbara married Frederick Septure Ferguson, a sawyer, on 19 September 1899.

Just before her wedding, at the Gaelic Society’s choir practice, Barbara was 'presented by the members of the choir with a handsome silver teapot, suitably inscribed.'

Barbara and Frederick had no children. Barbara died on 10 March 1915 and Frederick died in 1925, they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
