The 1893 electoral roll confirms Clark St St John's Wood Chalmers elect
Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Barbara Jamieson was born on 4 October 1848 in Walls, Shetland, Scotland – the daughter of Gideon Jamieson, a fisherman and farmer, and Mary Laurenson.
She married Peter Smith, an agricultural labourer, on 25 November 1875 in Walls and the following year the couple emigrated to Otago on the Invercargill.
They settled in Dunedin and when Barbara signed the suffrage petition they were living in Clark St, St John’s Wood in North East Valley.
Peter died in 1897 and Barbara disappears from the records after this, whether she re-married or moved from Dunedin is unclear.
