Biographical information provided by Briar Barry for the He Tohu exhibition:

Barbara was married to John Wills Yates, a farmer at Russell’s Flat in Canterbury. John was Chairman of the Russell’s Flat School Committee and Barbara was an accomplished pianist, performing at community events. They had three children, Isabella, Mary Elizabeth and John Charles Edwards.

Barbara died in 1919, aged 76 and is buried alongside her husband and daughter Isabella at Addington Cemetery in Christchurch.
