Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Bertha Burrows was born in 1870 in New Zealand – the daughter of Henry Burrows and Elizabeth. Her sisters Ellen and Lizzie also signed the petition.

The Burrows family lived in Bannockburn and Arrowtown while Henry worked as a gold miner, before they came to Dunedin about 1885 where Henry worked as a shoemaker.

On 25 December 1901 Bertha married Stephen Vivian, a miner, at her parent’s house. They had five children.

Stephen died in 1931 and Bertha on 23 May 1948. They are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
