Elizabeth/Bessie Logan was born in New Zealand in 1869 – the daughter of James Kennedy Logan, the inspector of telegraphs, and Katherine Malcolm Dewar (See 98 K K Logan)

When Bessie signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Cannongate, Dunedin.

She married Charles Howells, an auctioneer, on 14 February 1898 at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Wellington.

Bessie and Charles had five children and lived in Southland.

In 1909 Charles died when he jumped from a runaway buggy, he is buried in the Wallacetown Cemetery.

Bessie re-married on 24 July 1914 at the Sacred Heart Basilica, Wellington to Frances Eugene George O’Beirne, a solicitor.

They lived in Invercargill where Francis died in 1855.

Bessie died on 9 April 1957, they are buried in the family grave in the Invercargill Eastern Cemetery.
