Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Ann Harland was born in 1856 in Victoria, Australia – the daughter of John Harland, a waterman, and Mary Maxwell.
She came to New Zealand with her family as a child and she married George Biggar, a bushman and farmer, in 1879.
They had nine children and all five of their sons served in WW1.
The family lived, at first, in Oamaru before moving to Gore in 1881 and settling at Croydon Bush.
Ann signed the suffrage petition at, nearby, Gore.
She died on 15 January 1910 and George died in 1931 – they are buried together in the Gore Cemetery.
