Alice Bevan was born in 1864 in New Zealand – the daughter of Philip Bevan and Isabella Fraser.
She married Adam Bissett on 28 June 1884 in Wanganui.
Adam was a 42-year-old widower and a sergeant of Police.
Alice and Adam had five children and when Alice signed the suffrage petition they family were living in Greymouth.
They later moved to Hawera, Patea and Feilding where Adam ran a bookshop after his retirement.
He died in 1919 and is buried in the Heads Road, Cemetery.
Alice died on 3 April 1946 at her daughter’s home in Mt Eden – she is buried in the Waikumete Cemetery.
