Bridget Murphy was born in 1836 in County Offaly, Ireland. 

She married Archibald Brown, a customs storeman, in 1865 in New Zealand. 

They had six children and lived in Greymouth where Bridget signed the suffrage petition. 

Archibald died in 1903 and the following year Bridget, accompanied by her daughter, 'left last evening by the Wainui for a trip to Australia'. 

Bridget died at her daughter’s home in Greymouth on 14 September 1921 – she is buried with Archibald in the Karoro Cemetery.
