Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Annie Isabella Bullen was born in 1868 in New Zealand – the daughter of Alfred Christopher Bullen, a draper, and Isabella Munro.

When she signed the suffrage petition Annie was living with her family in High St, Roslyn in the Nevada subdivision.

She married Thomas Augustus Foweraker, the stationmaster at Herbert in South Otago, on 11 October 1893 at St John’s Church, Roslyn.

They had three children and lived later in Hyde and Gore as Thomas’ job moved the family around the country.

In 1908 Thomas was promoted to a job in Wellington, the Gore community farewelled the family with an evening of entertainment when Annie was presented with a 'handsome brooch' and Thomas with a gold sovereign case. Annie’s lady friends also entertained her at a supper, she was presented with a gold necklet chain and pendant 'as a mark of esteem and as an earnest of good wishes for her future welfare'.

When Annie and Thomas celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1943 they were living in Petone.

Thomas died the following year and Annie died on 7 November 1959. She was cremated and interred in the Karori Cemetery.
