Christina Catherine Radcliffe was born in 1859 in Melbourne, and was known as Kate. She left Australia in 1875. Her first husband Charles, whom she married in 1880, died in 1885 and in 1887 she married Edward Belton Pilcher, an insurance agent, in Petone. They had seven children and settled in Invercargill, where they lived at 249 Spey Street for many years. Kate died in 1956 at the age of 97.
