Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Christina Rutherford was born in 1857 in Geelong, Victoria – the daughter of William Rutherford, a carter, and Mary Oliver. (See 45 M Rutherford)

Christina came to Otago with her family in the 1860s and they settled in Dunedin where she married Charles Miller Inverarity, a clerk, on 10 April 1884.

They had one son and when Christina signed the suffrage petition they were living in Grey St, Port Chalmers.

They later moved to Wellington where Christina died at their son’s home on 22 August 1940 and Charles died in 1947.

They are buried with their son in the Karori Cemetery.
