Harriet Rose Dixon McGregor was born in 1871 in New Zealand – the daughter of Peter Murray McGregor, a painter, and Ann Anderson.

Harriet did not marry and when she signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Arthur St, Dunedin working as a dressmaker.

Harriet died at her home in Arthur St on 17 October 1962, she was cremated and her ashes scattered.
