Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Catherine/Katie Davidson was born about 1861 in Australia – the fourth daughter of John Davidson, a carpenter, and Catherine Karney.

She married Duncan McVicar, a miner and carpenter, on 24 January 1880 in Greymouth and they had seven children.

When Catherine signed the suffrage petition the family were living at Blacks Point near Reefton.

Duncan died in 1901 and Catherine died at the Reefton Hospital on 28 February 1947 – they are buried in the Reefton Cemetery.
