Clara Whitnall was born about 1865 at Waitahuna Gully in the Otago Goldfields- the daughter of Henry Whitnall and Charlotte Flood.
She married William Robert Roach, a caretaker, in 1887 and they had two children.
When Clara signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Princes St, Dunedin.
William died in 1912 and is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
Clara died on 24 February 1950 and was cremated at the Karori Cemetery, Wellington.
