Catherine Higginson was born about 1860 in England, she arrived in New Zealand about 1878.
Catherine married James Wright, a butcher, in 1880. They had nine children, two of whom died young. When she signed the suffrage petition Catherine was living in Cargill Rd, South Dunedin.
James died in 1924 and Catherine died on 23 June 1943. They are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
