Caroline Brake was born in 1846 in St George’s, now a part of Islington in north London. She was the first child of Frederick Brake, a surveyor, and Amelia Brake. In 1867 she married William Strickland Milverton, a cabinet maker. They had eight children. They migrated to New Zealand in 1886, settling in Palmerston North. Caroline died in 1943 at the age of 97.
