Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Caroline Carpenter was born about 1841 in Somerset, England – the daughter of Francis Carpenter and Harriet Bastin.

She married George Page, a brickmaker, in Somerset in 1861 and they had three children before they emigrated to Otago in 1873 on the Cospatrick.

They settled in Dunedin and had a further five children, two who died in infancy.

When Caroline signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Caversham, Dunedin.

Caroline died at her home on 13 August 1897 and George died at Dunedin Hospital in 1905, they are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
